The Frugal Mom Blog began in September, 2008 by Candace Anderson. ”My goal is to help people learn how to live frugally by giving both practical and creative ideas for saving money at home, as well as ideas for earning money from home.”
Candace (aka Frugal Mom) is a work at home, homeschooling mom to 5 boys, who loves the Lord, her husband, her family, and all things frugal. She loves frugal living now, but frugal living did not come naturally to Candace. Quite the contrary – she was a snob. Oh you know the type, we all do. Frankly, the level of pretentiousness she had achieved embarrasses her to this day. Wal-Mart, she would declare, was for buying scissors and laundry baskets, not clothes. Candace would have shuddered at the thought that one day she would buy her children’s clothing at garage sales and swap meets. But as the Lord would have it, her life turned into that of a frugal mom.
It wasn’t something that happened overnight – her family grew one child at a time (or two at a time the year she had twins), and she had over a year to prepare for her husband Steve’s job change. A change that came complete with a large reduction in salary. Nevertheless, she had a difficult time adjusting to frugal living. One day, however, something delightful happened. Frugal was no longer a dirty word. She became excited by saving money and challenged herself each week to see what she could get by without. She began a quest to learn all she could about frugal living, which then extended to a desire to share her passion with other women. In May 2003, yet another baby (albeit a much less painful birth) was born: FrugalMom.net.
Today Candace has several websites in addition to FrugalMom.net such as Once a Month Cooking World, and the Doll Cottage. She also works from home as a web designer and consultant. Her cookbook, Frugal Mom’s Guide to Once a Month Cooking, is filled with delicious recipes, and helps frugal cooks learn how to do once a month cooking.
