Hi Debbie!
They are so much fun to have as pets and their personalities are hilarious. Who knew!!

Our chickens are pretty loud. When they are out in the yard scratching around they are quiet, but then they definitely have their moments of making a ton of noise. After dark they are completely quiet. Our roosters, on the other hand, were super loud.

When they stop laying we'll just keep them as pets. They are great in the area of pest control! :)

When they first hatch you have to keep them at a certain temperature, but once they reach a certain age they are fine. We live in NC so our winters aren't too severe. They have a chicken coop where they stay nice and warm at night.

Hi, I would really love a chicken or two, we live in the burbs, but our house is tech out of the city limits. But, to be fair, how noisy are they?

What do you or are you going to do with them when they stop laying. I just want them as a pet, to help keep the garden clean etc. Do you need a heater in the winter?

My home was built in 1940 so it's full of leaks. We insulated the attic last year which helped with temp control big time. The other day I was outside and noticed a trail of ants going under the siding and straight into my house! GROSS... new plan spray insulation in the huge gap all the way around the house. This should help with utilities and pest control.

How fun! I hope you enjoy your little chicks. They are just so cute, and like our kids, grow up too fast! :)

I have been trying to remember the breed of chickens that we have and I can't remember. I do know that they are a cross breed. We thought one of them was an Easter Egger, but so far her eggs are light brown instead of colored.

What kind did you get?

[...] I am excited to start a series of posts featuring “once a month cooking” (or freezer cooking) recipes, tips and tools. If you are not familiar with O.A.M.C. it’s essentially a technique where you prepare 30 days worth of meals in one day and freeze them for later use. It helps busy families save money, waste less food and prepare healthier meals that are “drive-through” convenient on busy days. If you are new to OAMC or want to learn more, here’s a quick tutorial.
