If you use the 98% Fat Free soups, this is actually a pretty diet friendly dish. Back in the day when I did weight watchers I figured up that the whole thing was with 34 points. So you can eat 1/4 of the whole thing for only 8.5 points. I'm not sure if its still right with the new calculations, but still not bad!

Instead of Prego or Ragu, I use canned tomatoes and add garlic and spices. Last night I sauteed onions, garlic cloves, carrots, zuchinni and broccoli in olive oil, added a dash of salt, and some oregano....mmmm! you can put just about any veggie in pasta sauce.

SMOKED SAUSAGE W/PASTA
***I make this using Turkey smoked sausage, for a lower-fat option
INGREDIENTS
4 ounces uncooked angel hair pasta
1/2 pound reduced-fat smoked turkey sausage, cut into 1/2-inch slices
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh basil
1 tablespoon olive or canola oil
1 cup julienned, seeded, plum tomatoes
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
DIRECTIONS
Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large nonstick skillet, saute the sausage, mushrooms, garlic and basil in oil until mushrooms are tender. Drain pasta; add to the sausage mixture. Add the tomatoes, salt and pepper; toss gently. Heat through.

I would love some ideas for pasta sauce. I think we're going to be eating a lot more pasta dishes because of the rising cost of groceries. I made a simple garlic butter sauce the other night, but I would love more ideas about how to dress up pasta; preferably home-made sauce. Any suggestions?

I serve this pasta sauce over spaghetti squash instead of noodles. Sautee onions, 1 or 2 garlice cloves minced, and peppers (green, red, yellow whatever you like) in olive oil in a sauce pan or skillet. Mix in a can of tomatoes (use fresh if you prefer), a can of sliced black olives, and a can of chicken. You can also used cooked fresh chopped chicken if you prefer. I simmer this for about 10 minutes. Bake a spaghetti squash and cut in half when done. scoop out the seeds. The inside pulls out into what looks like spaghetti noodles. I serve my sauce over this and my kids love it!----momtoemma&helen

I made an impromptu sauce last week with stuff I had on hand and what I found at the farmers' market-
saute garlic and onions (any variety) in olive or safflower oil, add chunks of squash, let everything sear a bit then add diced tomatoes. I also added a splash of white wine, but it's not necessary- it does pull out the flavors. I like to sprinkle black pepper on mine. sooo tasty!

I make a creamy white sauce. Saute finely diced onions and crushed garlic in olive oil. add flour to make a rue then add milk or cream cook till thickened then add any of the following cheeses
motzerella
parmesan (fresh or grated)
asiago
monterey jack
cheddar for a change
you can use this sauce in all kinds of ways you can even use it with noodles then bake the dish.

Cheesy Crockpot Chicken :smiling:
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 lb. boneless/skinless chicken breasts
1 pkg. egg noodles
Garlic powder and garlic salt, to taste
Mix soup and add dash of garlic powder and garlic salt. Put soup mixture and chicken in crockpot. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low 6-7 hours. Remove chicken and cut. Pour chicken and soup mix over cooked egg noodles and serve.
I usually double this recipe because it's delicious for leftover lunches during the week.

I use different shaped pasta all the time, the cost is the same but the kids are happier with wheels and bowties than spaghetti noodles
Also if you can find Wacky Mac, it is .99 here and it is made with veggies so it is cheap & healthy
