Prayers are really needed for my best friend Shari.. the Kindergarten teacher I have talked about so often. She is really suffering right now and they are running tests for RA, Lyme , Raynauds and oddly enough Lupus. Her joints ( fingers esp.) are so swollen and she can barely get through a day of teaching due to the pain. She cant even tie her students shoes anymore. She finally saw a Dr yesterday and we talked for the longest time last night. She is so scared. She is in her prime( 36).. loves teaching, her oldest child just turned 13, she leads a really full life and having to slow down will just devestate her. She was with me as I waited for a diagnosis when I got Lupus and has made many meals to get me through those tough days. She has always supported me and I will do the same for her. My gut instict tells me it is Raynauds because she doesnt have the fatigue that is associated with Lupus ( at least not yet) and that is in her favor ( not having fatigue). Please keep her in your prayers.. thanks ladies.

Prayers being sent Nancy. Angie is right...you of all people will be wonderful for her. You know what she is going through and you know how she feels. Even more the reason God places people in our lives.

On another note...I thought of you yesterday while watching Regis & Kelly...they are hosting a wedding this week for a gentleman who suffers from Lupus. With me being sick the past few weeks, and I have been feeling rotten....I just can't imagine the ongoing illness you suffer, along with Candace and others here. Hugs and prayers for everyone here who suffer from these type things.

He actually has what is called Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder. I don't know if you ever heard of it. It is autoimmune..pretty much like Lupus...the only advantage to having that as opposed to SLE is there is not as much organ involvment. Most Dr.s just call it Lupus...but he was having a ton of trouble..he was on steroids for three years, lost a ton of weight (I think I weighed more than he did)...could not get rid of the chronic fatigue and muscle aches. He finally decided to switch Dr's and go to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia...they have a Lupus Clinic there. The Dr. he goes to now...is a lot more aggressive than he's used to...she completely changed his medicine around. He is doing SOOO much better now, this is the first time he has been off steroids in three years..and doing pretty well! I honestly don't think his hands will ever be back to normal, but for the most part he's feeling really good. It was definately worth switching Dr's!! If you ever need any info...I'm sure I can get it for you. I hope you are doing well...believe me, I know how rough it can be.

Thanks Jessica..and I have heard of it. I could write a book myself..:lol banner: I was diagnosed 11 years ago.. it was a lovely 30th birthday gift. I still cringe when I look back at the pictures of my 30th surprise birthday party my DH had for me. I was on such a high dose of steroids and you could really tell it by looking at me too. I was very fortunate though that my family Dr was able to diagnose it early and when I starting asking questions that he didnt know the answer too ( because I read everything I could about Lupus).. he said it was time to see a specialist because I deserved the best care possible and he was your basic family Dr. I really appreciated that.. not may Dr's will admit something is out of their league. I do have the organ involvment.. lungs, kidney, skin, and a touch of memory issues.. but I am doing really , really well. I am blessed. I am glad to hear your DH is doing well also. It sounds like he has a really supportive wife in you and that is so important. I could have never gotten through all of this without the wonderful husband I have.

I will be praying for Shari. Do you know when to expect the test results? The waiting is so hard - especially when you know the diagnosis might possibly change the rest of your life. I know what a wonderful support system you will be for her - what a blessing she has in you.

All of my friend's test came back ok.. so she and the Dr's are still stumped. The Dr wants to run the tests again when she is in the middle of another flare and see if the results are different. So continued prayers and thank you for the ones that you have been sending.

So glad the test results came back okay....but how frustrating not knowing what the problem is. Prayers for your friend.

I'm not sure if this is helpful or not but a aquaintance of mine had a similar problem and stated seeing a holistic dr. Found he was having some kind of allergic reaction to a med the reg Dr had him on. The swelling is going down but it has been a few months and he still has a long road to go. He actually lost his job because of the swelling in his hands and feet. I" keep Shari and you in my prayers.
