DH was looking at the Gardening section with me, and he'd like to know if any of you have suggestions for keeping bees & flies off of our apple tree, and bugs off of our cantaloupes?

Are you talking after the apples are already growing? The bad part is that bees and flies pollinate the flowers that make the apples, so they think they should stick around. Sorry I don't have a good solution. I remember my grandpa putting out fly traps and bowls of sugar water in strategic areas to draw them away. It is hard without insecticides. Hope some others have more suggestions.

Maybe you could look into companion planting for the canteloupe?

As for the apples....don't get rid of the bees....they're you best friends.

Yes.. Apples trees need bees for sure, without them you will have no apples. I know my DH tries to stay chemical free for the most part. I havent had a chance to talk to him about this, but maybe this link can help.
