That's what all you ladies have been to me for about a year now. I found your site while searching for tips of leading a more frugal lifestyle and have been actively reading your posts for about a year. The information I have learned about budgeting, menu planning, OAMC, recipies etc. is simply amazing. I am finally at the point where I have the time to actually contribute. I am a working mom of two gorgeous children (yes, I am biased, but aren't we all?) and a wonderful Australian Shephard. I've been married to my crazy life for 6 years now, and I'm looking forward to learning lots more from all of you for years to come.

We did so much research before deciding on this breed. The breeder we bought Marty from specializes in pet therapy dogs, so he has the most amazing temperment I've ever seen! To say that he is incredible with my two small children is an understatement!

We also have a beagle..and the shepard ( maggie may) is so good with the beagle. The beagle is 11 and Maggie is 3. It is so funny to see Maggie herd the beagle. It is as if she is a sheep. Maggie waits for Dogger ( beagle) to finish going to the bathroom and the minute she is done, Maggie makes a run for it and herds her back into the house. She is excellent with our kids. I babysit a 4 month old and Maggie does very well with him.. no issues at all. Now.. if she didnt shed, she would be perfect!!

Ugh! I hear you! We shave him in the summer (yes he looks very silly) but for 4 months out of the year I am not picking up furballs the size of the Titanic, and he doesn't smell too bad after he swims in the pond. When we brush him in the winter I swear we take off enough fur to build another dog. I have actully seen little birds nests in the trees around our house that were built with Marty's extra fur!

Welcome Tricia! So glad to have you aboard! I love Australian Shephards! They're so intelligent! There used to be one at the stable that I rode horses at that would herd my car, if I wasn't going fast enough to suit him he would chase his tail to hurry me along...so funny!

Welcome to Frugal Mom! I am glad you are joining us.
We used to have an Australian Shepherd too! Ours was very good with my children, but whenever children came over to play, he would try to herd them. It was really cute at first but then he turned aggessive with other children and ended up biting 2 of them on different occasions. It was so sad but we had to have him put down. I cried and cried because he was so good to us. We tried to find a rescue home for him but since he had already bitten a child, they wouldn't accept him and we couldn't keep him. Oh it broke my heart. I just loved that dog!

I am always amazed at how many people have either owned or known an Aussie. We had never heard of the breed before 2001, maybe they are just not that popular where we live. We have been so blessed with him. My son literally used him as a walker when he was first learning to walk. He would sit on the floor, wait for Marty to walk by, grab two fist fulls of fur, pull himself up and toddle behind him. Marty never even blinked, he got so used to it that he would wait for Dominik to stand before he started walking. They are still the best of friends. Now they play hockey together in the driveway. Marty catches tennis balls in the air that Dominik shoots to him. They are inseparable.
