TV turn-off week will be Monday June 11th through Sunday June 17th.

In line with promoting family and frugality, here are some objectives of our TV turn-off week:
1. Encourage imagination
2. Encourage productivity
4. The FM frugal objective: Save money on electricity
5. You may come up with more objectives of your own!

Guidelines and tips:
~In our house, we have to unplug the TV. :giggle:
~The question has been brought up about video games on the TV. Does that "count?" Yes! We want to keep our TV's OFF.
~ Does the computer count? No! A lot of us use our computer for business and learning.

I will be posting daily suggested activities each morning or evening before. Some will be for inside, outside, individual, family, etc. It would be wonderful if we could take pics of us doing our non-TV activities to share!

Families or individuals that complete the week without TV, will receive something special! :first:

Have any questions?? Just PM me!

Just reply to this thread to let us know you are going to take the Challenge! Good Luck!

I'm going to use this challenge to do more family activities- sometimes we're all going in so many directions. so I'm going to find the time to throw a frisbee, kick a ball, play games. Thanks, Lisa!

:giggle: My dh has already told me that he is not going to be doing this! I couldn't find my notes for this post yesterday and dh said, "Even though I am totally against this, I did NOT hide your notes!" :rolling grin:

My first thought....Oh My!! My family could not do this!! I think I would have no problem, but even dh would bark at this one. As much as I like this idea and would love nothing more than to turn off the TV for the week...It's a sad day when someone says they can't live a week without tv. I'll bring it up tonight just to hear the response.

Most of you know we don't have a tv- don't even own one. I'm not saying this is the right choice for everyone, but I just don't care for it. Life without tv is liberating- I don't have to schedule around it or worry that I'm missing something. I've been hooked on different shows before, so I understand when you have a favorite, or you're a big sports fan. But it's really amazing how much more time you have without it. It's also amazing how much tv affects us- how subtle the propaganda is- from the way we judge how women should look, to political news, we are being fed a lot of garbage. I think instead of a "no tv" week, I will take a break from fm. I don't do much else on the internet, but I do see my time slipping away sometimes, or I'm not as attentive to my family. I've been thinking of this lately- a break can be a good thing. I'm not judging anyone who doesn't want to participate- just reflecting on my own observations. :smiling:

Last Call! If anyone did the TV-Turn Off Week, let me know now! Boy, I thought this might be something we could get into, but it just didn't turn out that way.
