Help! My puppy has made it her hobby to pee in our dinning roo. Not only is this gross, I find even though I am cleaning right after it happens, the smell lingers like a dirty old sock! I mean its gross. HOW CAN I GET RID OF THIS SMELL on the carpet? Any potty training tips would help. Thanks so much. Gina

Nature's Miracle for the smell. You can get it at lots of places -- pet stores like PetSmart and PetCo, I think even Target and WalMart sometimes carry it.
I don't have any great tips for the potty training, though, we just figured it out by trial and error (many, many errors). Good luck!

when we got our dog, i hung a set of christmas bells ont eh back door. everytime i took him outside, i rang the bells and said toby go outside. it didn't take him long to associate ringing the bells with getting to go outside, so he started doing it himself when he needed to go out. if the nature's miricale doesn't get it out, you can try borax. keep puppy out of that room while using it because it can make him sick. sprinkle borax on the area and then spray it with water to make it slightly damp and work it into the rug just a little bit. once it dries, vacuum it up really well and the smell should be gone. i've used borax to get the smell out of my son's mattress and the dog's bed.
and as long as the dog can smell the pee, he's gonna keep going in the dining room.

That is such a great idea to use the bells!! Our 2 dogs both come and stare us down when they need to go outside. I wish we had trained them with bells!

There is some pads they are called pee pee pads I am almost positive! lol Mine used that till I could completely train him he would go on that when I wasn't home or paying attention to him. I really can't remember much about it but, I think he automatically went on it we put them in his favorite spots to go. I think we then brought it outside to show him to go outside not sure though sorry but, I know those helped!! Good luck potty training whether animal or child is so not fun! lol

Maybe use baby gates or something to keep the dog confined to a non-carpeted area until it's trained? At least at times when you aren't giving it your undivided attention.

When we have a puppy in the house (or even a new older dog), I take him/her out every hour, except during the night, and then stretch that time out until we are going about 4-5 times a day. They will still have accidents but they get the idea pretty quick. Mine old dogs sit in front of the door, my new dog barks and runs in circles :rollinglaugh: and my DD's dog paces....they are all different, LOL!
