When Rosie started pulling up to stand, I realized this table was the perfect height for her, but it was peeling old paint and would need a make-over. I debated on different designs and settled on flowers, then looked at images online for some inspiration. I had to work on in a little at time during naps, but I finally finished last night! Dh is going to give it several coats of polyurethane to protect it and we'll give it to her for her first birthday. I love how it came out!

Christmas dinner plans? http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?25216-Christmas-dinner-plans&goto=newpost Thu, 22 Dec 2011 17:05:12 GMT Hi ladies!

I've gone back and forth about what in the world to cook for the main dish for Christmas dinner. We're all pretty tired of ham and turkey at my house, and I even thought of a pork crown roast. I think I've settled on throwing a couple of tri-tips in the smoker and just have all the regular side dishes; stuffing, red potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, pies, etc.

But, I'd love to hear what you guys are cooking up! ]]>

Nasty Neighbor!! http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?25212-Nasty-Neighbor!!&goto=newpost Wed, 21 Dec 2011 15:31:33 GMT The neighborhood I live in is a very diverse one. All different kinds of folks and all living together quite well. I know my neighbors right around me, but the others that I don’t know personally, I know on sight and wave to.

Last Sunday morning I was taking some butter I had made to one of my neighbors and I see a police car in front of a house across the street. This neighbor has been the fly in the ointment for as long as I can remember. Just nasty because he can be is the best I can figure. Well, it seems his wife’s car was stolen sometime in the night. That was disturbing enough. See…Tampa used have the distinction of having one of the highest auto theft rates around. In 2003 my husband’s truck was stolen, but that was the last big thing we’d heard of around us in years now.

But the truly disturbing thing to me is now the nasty neighbor has become nastier. As I was walking next door to give the butter, I heard Mr. Nasty yelling ‘useless s.o.b’ (but said it long version) as the police office was getting into his car. Now it could have been to his dog, but I’m sure it was also intended for the police officer, too. He’s just that type. Then my next door neighbor told me that he had yelled out to ‘m-f’ing N-word’s across the street’ in her and her daughter’s hearing not long after that. Again in long version. This has got me so upset and so angry that I just want to punch the guy in the nose! I’m not going to, of course, but I still want to. This is not this neighborhood at all! (It’s funny because 15 years ago the wife told me that they were moving out because they were better than the neighborhood. Unfortunately they’re still there! :( ) I told my good neighbor to consider the source and that he’s been nasty since day one to everyone. When we were chatting about the car theft, my husband said ‘couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!’. My neighbor and I agreed that we don’t wish anything on anyone, but what goes around does come around.

This ugliness has me all stirred up inside. It’s the one thing that truly turns my stomach and now I have to live across the street from it. I know my dirty looks mean nothing to the nasty old fart across the street, but I know I will stand and cheer if they do move out!

Thanks for letting me vent!! LOL ]]>

Eating at Home Challenge = Grocery Bill Change http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?25209-Eating-at-Home-Challenge-Grocery-Bill-Change&goto=newpost Mon, 19 Dec 2011 15:10:44 GMT I normally don't do New Year Resolutions, but one thing I plan to work on for 2012 is:

Am I the only one who spends a fortune at the Grocery Store? I am soooo tired of spending more than half my pay at the grocery store. The prices are just out of sight. I have got to get control of what I spend. It's CRaZy.

This is something I've been working on too. I told the fam last night...it's got to stop (the eating out). On top of the huge grocery bill, we are eating out a couple times a week. Not only is it horrible for us health wise, it's expensive. I will try to limit the eating out to four times a month. This would be once a week.

This will be a huge challenge for me....anyone else on board? ]]>

Hi, Friends! http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?23244-Hi-Friends!&goto=newpost Fri, 09 Dec 2011 15:21:46 GMT I've been MIA for a while and thought I would let you all know that I'm still alive. :smiling: I have been trying to figure things out with this Fibro. I'm having a hard time doing much of anything lately. It effects SO much more than I realized and it's taking it's toll on me.

Right now I'm sitting here trying to think of a meal plan and I am having a hard time thinking of anything other than our usual three meals. My brain is just not wanting to work. I need help. I need some suggestions for meals that don't take a lot of time and are nutritious and yummy. I have a household of non-picky eaters which makes it easier, but then I fall into the french fries and chicken nugget rut where the kids can throw them in the oven and I don't have to do anything, but that's not very nutritious either.

I appreciate your help! I pray for everyone here daily. I'm sorry I just can't get here very often. :smitten: ]]>

Anyone else dealt with this? I'm not a fan of taking anything.

And I looked through the symptoms and honestly....I've had most of them for centuries. Maybe I just run high?

<![CDATA[I'm making soap...I hope!]]> http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?23223-I-m-making-soap...I-hope!&goto=newpost Sun, 04 Dec 2011 17:47:02 GMT I've got the 4 pounds of lard cooling to 110 degrees in the kitchen and the water/lye mixture cooling to 85 degrees on the deck. Once they get there, I'll mix them and stir for 30 minutes and then pour into a mold (plastic lined cardboard box). Then in 24-48 hours I'll cut them and let them cure for six weeks. I'm guessing this is to harden the soap up.

I'm hoping this will work. :giggle: I've got the homemade soap for beginninger website up for checking.

Y'all keep your fingers crossed that I have soap!

I did the best I could to keep the house running and the kiddo fed as I careened around town doing everything.

I WAS looking forward to next week...which LOOKED slower paced, until last night. Then dd got added to 2 piano workshops and a Christmas invitational recital (big HUGE deal) the week after. She's got a lot of practice to get in and the 2 workshops are intense.

Add to that, earlier in the week, her soccer coach announced (grrrr) that they will be continuing practice through the winter at a local indoor arena on Mondays. (Um, practice used to be Tues and Thurs...WTH!!!!). So I had to shift her trainer day to Friday.

A close friend of ours asked us if we'd go to his concert next Friday night to hear him play. How do you say no to that, and he's really good. Except dd has a dance, and I already told her she can have a friend sleepover. Ugghhhhh. Enlisted grandma for that disaster.

And dh told me he's traveling again next week....he'll be home on Friday. Jeeeezzzzz.

On the plus side, since dh isn't here, dd and I have been going to bed at the same time. 8 pm , LOL!!!!! I haven't gone grocery shopping or cooked a dinner in a week, we've been eating leftovers from the freezer.

There's just too much to do.....

Help!! http://www.frugalmom.net/forums/showthread.php?23220-Help!!&goto=newpost Fri, 02 Dec 2011 17:10:32 GMT Hi all.

I'm going out this weekend and buying Christmas presents for co-workers. The majority of them are females and easy to buy for, but I have four gentlemen I work with and I have no idea what is an inexpensive, approrpriate gift for a man you work with. Obviously I've worked with women for a long time!

Any suggestions? ]]>
