Thread: Cheap or Homemade Laundry Deodorizer

Unhappy Cheap or Homemade Laundry Deodorizer

We use Tide free for laundry due to allergies.. Usually we can get away with fabric softerners that smell, but we switched to Kirkland fabric softener, but even with using 5 sheets, it doesn't deodorize the laundry . So if there is ANY off odors, we are stuck with them... Liquid fabric softener works really good, but it is so expensive and is supposed to be a fire hazard...

Are there any "home remedies" for laundry deodorizers???

The best things that I am aware of for removing odors is baking soda.. which you would use in the wash and vinegar in the rinse.

I just finished reading a book that gave a great-sounding recipe!!
Maybe you can try it and see if it works?

    Homemade Dryer Fabric Softener
    1/2 c. baking soda
    1 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
1 Tbsp. rice flour or cornstarch
1-3 drops eseential oil of choice
Mix all ingredients in glass bowl. Put a few tablespoons in a small sachet made of tightly woven fabric. Tie tight.
Cut odors and softens, leaving fresh and fragrant. When scent disappears, empty sachet, refill and reuse. Store excess mix in clean, labeled glass jar with screw top.

Baking soda in the wash, vinegar in the rinse, and the hottest water possible.
