I just had to chuckle that most of your kid budget is already spent on October 1st.

My dh just got paid and I handed him a $20 and told him to "make it last....that's all there is". LOL. He didn't find it nearly as amusing as I did.

September was not too bad for us. I spent more than budgeted on groceries, but a lot of that was donations to the fire hall and feeding neighbors during the flood. Renee.. I read your comment about your elec bill being high. I just switched ( in September)to budget billing because we run into the same problem.. its so much higher in the summer. Now I know what to expect each month and it makes it a bit easier. We do the same thing with our fuel oil in the winter.. budget plan that too.

    October 1st

    Stamps $9
    Deposit into tax fund $50
charge card $128 ( paid off in full)
Gas $390 ( for September.. paid in full)
    Phone $220 ( house and 4 cells)
JC Pennys $32 ( paid in full)
    electric $115
    Dish/Netflix/Redbox $70
    Allowance DH/Me $150
    Home Equity $465 ( extra)
    Car Ins $260
    Home Ins$40
    Life Ins $72
    Internet $65
    Oil $190
    Kids life ins( yr)$92
    Car payment $155
    garbage $15
    tickets to play $30
    fundraiser $10
    groceries $32
Met DD half way to college for dinner $30

Is that a year supply.. and is it disposable or hard lenses? I hope that included the exam.

We dont have eye insurance.. we have a discount card that DH's employer issues that saves us about 30% at eye Dr. So its not the best.. but its better than full price. I think DD's contacts run about $10 a month and they are colored. We order a 6 month supply at a time. I would have to look up what her exams run. I talk her into using her frames over and just getting new lenses put in every other time... since she only wears the glasses a couple hours a night when she takes her contacts out. You are nicer than I am.. we made DD wait till 8th grade to get contacts.

Our insurance paid about half of the bill. I got contacts in 6th grade. We were at a point with ds that he either needed a separate pair of sports glasses (with the elasticy band) or contacts for football. So, we went the contact route, and he has done really well with them. For myself, I am dying to have lasik done. It just never seems to make it to the top of our financial list.

My SIL had that done years ago, but now that she is 40 she needs bi focals so will have to go back to contacts or glasses anyway. She said it was great while it lasted. DD could still get away with taking her glasses off for sports till about 8th grade. Now her eyes get worse every year it seems. DH is in bifocals now and I cant see any sort of long distance ( but havent resorted to glasses for that yet)... We are a fine match! My son has eagle eyes.

Dh had lasik done about 15 years ago. And although his vision has gotten slightly worse over time, he's still at about 20/30....so the eye dr said skip the glasses for now. Dh couldn't wear contacts.....so many problems. He's said when it gets bad enough for glasses, he'll have it touched up with lasik again.

The procedure is totally different now. No cutting. It used to be REALLY scary...now it's just skeevy. LOL
