Default Toothpastes for kids

It's so difficult to find a toothpaste that your little one will like using and that also provides the best protection for their teeth...

Which kid's toothpastes have you tried?

Has anyone tried Sensodyne's new ProNamel for Children?

y'all know what an ingredient freak I am....well, I'm picky about toothpaste too! young ones often swallow a bit of the toothpaste and the ingredients in most are NOT meant to be swallowed. I use Tom's of Maine (I think they were bought by someone else a year ago, so I don't know if they go by that name anymore) and there's another organic/natural brand I like, but can't think of the name. Toms has apricot and I think a strawberry flavor- both are very mild tasting and don't taste like candy. I stock up when I find a deal, because they are more expensive. My dentist said it's more important that they brush their teeth even if they don't use much or any toothpaste at first.

I haven't tried that brand. I usually get Aim toothpaste for my kids ages 13, 13, 10 and 2. Aim is only .88 at Walmart and it has a milder mint flavor. It's not so overpowering, but comes in cavity control and has flouride in it. I only use a pea size amount with my 2 year old though. Pediatricians say that you have to watch the flouride in smaller children.

We used some "swallowable" toothpaste when the kids were young. All that I remember about it was that it had a bear on the front. It may have been a store brand.

I agree... especially when they first start getting teeth in... you should introduce them to a toothbrush with just water to get them used to the idea. Once they learn to spit (around 2 years)... you can move to a pea sized amt of toothpaste

Kids have very soft enamel on their teeth which makes them very prone to acid erosion and cavities... The trickiest part is that you can't always see signs of acid erosion (only your dentist can really tell) but once the enamel is gone, it's gone for good.

I actually work with Sensodyne and their new ProNamel for Children was developed with dentists and proven to restrengthen tooth enamel. It also comes in a kid friendly, gentle mint flavor.

Hope this is helpful... You can also go to www.ProNamelforChildren.com for more info. Also, they have a $1 coupon you can print

I'm with Mara on the Tom's. We took all our kids to the dentist last week and ds2 & ds3 both had cold sores. The dental hygenist said they have found that SLS (sodium laral sufate) inhibits the healing and eggravates them. This will also help in the spreading of them. Tom's is the only one that we found without it that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Some of their does include it, but they have some that doesn't. Oh and all SLS does in toothpaste is make it bubble when you brush. When we started with the toothbrush, I always just gave it to them while I was brushing my teeth (lets them know it's important if you are doing it) and let them chew on it. After they were bigger and understood not to swallow it we went to a small amount. My grandmother brushed all her life just with a little baking soda and rinsed with salt water. She died with ALL her teeth.

We use Aquafresh for dd1 and then Orajel training toothpaste for dd2. So far so good.

I usually have done just water before they learned to spit, the training without flouride while they were learning to spit, and whatever kids toothpaste with flouride that they liked the flavor of after they learned to spit. I think they're using Colgate now and whatever sample the dentist gave us. I think we usually get bubblegum flavor.

wow Lisa- I didn't realize that about the SLS. I actually have concerns about flouride itself and the artificial sweeteners. I was thinking of using BS myself- maybe every other day or something to get used to it and see what I think. I'll ask my dentist, too. He's a pretty open-minded guy. He agreed with me that it would be fine for my family to go twice as long between x-rays because we all have good strong teeth. He said just the fact that we don't drink pop is huge. Xrays are good for detecting decay between the teeth and by not drinking pop and eating very little candy or sugary foods he feels we're in good shape. we still see him every six months so he would recommend otherwise if he saw a need.

I myself am allergic to pepperming, it forms blisters in my mouth. Even some of the fruit flavored pastes have a small amount in them. Trust me, I have broken out with them. Please give me any contact information for the Tom's brand. Would love to have a toothpaste again.
