I love making bread! I have a great, simple recipe from a French cook book DH gave me for Christmas last year. I use that one all the time, but my DS had to bake bread for his English class last week. OMG, it made the kitchen smell delicious! The class each had to make something from Midievel recipes. This called for a ton of flour (ok, not actually a ton), 6 Tbsp of huney, different herbs, fresh parsley (it's called Parsley bread). If you want the recipe, I could get it when I go home for lunch and give it to you this afternoon. After it's all mixed up, you form it into a twist or braid, then I pulled the ends together and made it like a braided wreath and brushed on an egg wash - it came out beautiful! Even my husband said "WOW! You made that?"
I really want to make that one again.Tonight, I'm doing stuffed manicotti shells with Italian Sausage - a recipe from the Taste of Home Cooking Class the other night ![]()

I will be making sour dough bread this weekend! I have to feed my starter this evening and then let it sit out overnight. Then tomorrow morning I will make the dough and let that sit until tomorrow evening. Then it goes into the loaf pans and sits overnight and I will bake it first thing Sunday morning!
I make sour dough bread, homemade white bread, biscuits and cornbread!! YUMMMMMMMM!

I would love your recipe for sourdough. I love to bake bread, but I've never worked with a starter. Could you share your recipe???

The only bread I make on my own is banana bread or zuchinni bread, otherwise I use my bread machine, I never had good luck doing it the old fashioned way!!

Here's the sour dough recipe. It's takes a while to make it though so you have to be patient LOL.
First you mix up your starter- 3/4 cup sugar 3 tablespoons instant mashed potato flakes 1 cup warm water 1 pk. dry yeast Mix this well in a quart jar. Cover it lightly and put it in the fridge. In 3-5 days you feed it- 3 tablespoons instant potato flakes 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup warm water mix well and let it sit out on the counter for 8-12 hours. This will bubble. After 8-12 hours take out one cup to use to make bread and put the rest back in the fridge. Feed it again in 3-5 days. If you don't want to make bread again, throw away one cup and put the rest in the fridge. To make bread- In a large bowl mix with a heavy spoon- 6 cups of all purpose flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 tablespoon salt 1 cup starter 1/2 cup oil 1 1/2 cups warm water Spray the inside of a large bowl with cooking spray. Put dough into the bowl and spray the top of dough. Cover lightly with foil. Put in a warm place and let raise for 8-12 hours. After 8-12 hours punch down dough. Then divide dough into three sections. Knead each part on a floured surface. Shape into loaves and put into loaf pans sprayed with cooking spray. Cover with waxed paper and let raise 6-8 hours. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. ** Watch the dough as it's rising. If your room is too warm, the dough will raise fast! Make sure you use a BIG bowl! Also you never use a metal bowl, container or spoon for mixing the bread or storing the starter.**

It's really not hard as much as it just takes some time to learn to do it. You have to figure out just how much to knead it so you don't overdo it. The sour dough bread I make is really easy to make(well other than it taking a darned week to do LOL). You don't have to knead it but just a couple of turns and it's ready to shape and put into the pans. You can also make it and then flatten the dough out and cut it as biscuits, then let then raise a little and bake them.

I love to make homemade bread, but I learned to do mine the lazy way. I let my bread machine mix and knead it for me. I have some problems with my wrists and it's easier for me to do that. I take it out of the machine and let it rise and then pan it out.
I love to make breads, pepperoni rolls, hotrolls, biscuits, cornbread. YUM! I made a pan of fresh bisuits for supper on Friday night. Hubby said that they were delicious! LOL!
