It's the same darn thing every year in my very OLD FASHIONED new england family. Lord forbid you try something different. The uproar!!!! I've watched several of my dh's cousins new wives try to get all fancy....and get a bunch of bad reviews. On the plus side, I know what I'm cooking and have it down to a science.

    turkey
    ham
2 types of stuffing...sausage and not
    gravy
    mashed potatoes
canned cranberry sauce (don't even think of fresh, LOL)
    corn
    honey glazed carrots
    squash and apple bake

Pies: mince, apple and pumpkin....no deviations are accepted and if you bring something different prepare for them not to touch it much. This is usually where the other wives are prone to crying. One spent hours one year making a Boston Creme pie, noone ate it...not even her dh, which of course started a fight.

This year I'm adding spiced beets to the table. I have no illusions that they will be eaten by anyone other than me. But I want them.

In year's past, the great grandparents liked creamed onions. I'm now allowed NOT to make them.
