If you currently subscribe to satellite or cable television and are looking for ideas on how to cut back on your monthly expenses, then Warpia may be your answer. This summer Warpia sent me one of their units to review, and I am so excited about this product. We use ours all the time to watch online shows on our television.
Basically, Warpia is a system that wirelessly connects your laptop to your HDTV. Once connected, anything that is playing on your laptop will show up on your HDTV. This means you can watch online shows up on your television where everyone can see, instead of on your computer screen.
Warpia has two parts – the part that plugs into your television, and the wireless USB that plugs into your laptop. I leave the television piece connected to the television at all times, and when I am ready to use Warpia I simply plug the USB into my laptop. The connection is immediate and anything on my laptop screen also shows up on the television screen.
If your family enjoys gathering around the television to watch shows or have movie nights, then Warpia is a great replacement for cable or satellite. Currently, the price for a Warpia unit is a one-time price of $159.00. While the unit may seem expensive, if it substitutes for your cable bill, then it pays for itself in just a couple of months.
Warpia Review: Pros and Cons
Warpia offers a wireless connection from your laptop to your television.
Anything you can watch on your laptop, you can now watch on your television. This includes pictures, slideshows, movies, or YouTube videos.
You can use Warpia to stream Netflix, Hulu, or other online streaming services.
Many television shows have been made available for free viewing online from sites like CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, and other cable networks.
If your TV has an HDMI port (and most newer model televisions do, then set-up is very quick and simple. If your television doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can buy an inexpensive HDMI to DVI adapter.
Once you make the initial purchase, you will not need to pay anything more. There is no monthly fee for using the product.
You can watch television and movies in 1920 x 1280 resolution.
Warpia comes with a 1 year warranty as well as telephone and chat support.
The $159.99 price tag might be prohibitive for some, although it is a bit less expensive on Amazon.
Older HDTVs do not have an HDMI port and will need an HDMI to DVI adapter. We ordered our adapter from Amazon and it was $7.99.
Your laptop needs to be within 30 feet of the television in order for it to work, and the path from your laptop to the television must be unobstructed.
If you walk in between your laptop and the television, you will briefly disrupt the connection (but it is quickly reestablished as soon as you are out of the path).
